The iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade returns to Manhattan today, featuring a dazzling lineup of 17 giant character balloons, 22 floats, 15 novelty and heritage inflatables, 11 marching bands, 700 clowns, and 10 performance groups.
Despite rain predicted by Abc7ny AccuWeather, millions are expected to line the 2.5-mile parade route, stretching from the Upper West Side to Macy’s flagship store in Herald Square, to witness the spectacle.
Preparations kicked into high gear Wednesday as the giant helium balloons were inflated ahead of the big event. Stephanie Senkevich, one of the many volunteers assisting with the inflation, described the experience: “You see these giant balloons come to life. They start on the ground, where you’re taller than them, and slowly rise until they’re towering above you.”
New for the 2025 parade are balloons featuring characters such as Minnie Mouse, Goku from Dragon Ball, and Spider-Man, joining returning favorites like Smokey Bear and SpongeBob SquarePants.
The festivities will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with actor Alison Brie serving as the parade’s official host. The route begins at West 77th Street and Central Park West and concludes at Herald Square.
Best Viewing Spots
Prime locations include Central Park West between West 75th and West 61st Streets and along Sixth Avenue from West 59th to West 38th Streets. Arriving early is recommended to secure the best spots.
Security Guidelines
Spectators are advised to avoid bringing large bags, umbrellas, backpacks, and strollers to ensure a smooth and safe experience.
Rain or shine, the parade promises to deliver its signature mix of holiday magic, music, and larger-than-life entertainment.
