Judge Denies Bail for Sean “Diddy” Combs, Citing Danger to Community

A New York federal judge has denied bail for hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, citing “clear and convincing evidence” that he poses a danger to the community and that no combination of conditions could ensure public safety.

Judge Arun Subramanian pointed to compelling evidence of Combs’s alleged violent tendencies, including video footage from a 2016 incident at the Intercontinental Hotel involving protégé Cassie Ventura. While Combs’ defense argued that the footage was edited and manipulated, the judge noted, “There is clearly violence even in the version of the footage submitted by Combs.”

This marks the fourth time Combs has been denied bail. Federal prosecutors argued that Combs attempted to influence witnesses from jail, describing it as obstruction of his criminal case. They also accused him of trying to sway public opinion and the jury pool through a social media campaign organized by his children.

Combs’ attorneys defended his conduct as protected free speech, intended to counter what they described as “outrageous claims” by government agents, plaintiff attorneys, and others with “questionable motives.”

The judge also cited text messages between Combs and Ventura sent after the alleged 2016 incident. In one message, Ventura wrote, “I have a black eye and a fat lip. You are sick for thinking it’s OK to do what you’ve done.” Another read, “I still have crazy bruising.”

Combs had proposed home confinement at a three-bedroom Upper East Side apartment with 24/7 private security, limits on visitors, and restrictions on his communications. However, the judge rejected the proposal, stating, “Given the nature of the allegations in this case and the information provided by the government, the Court doubts the sufficiency of any conditions that place trust in Combs and individuals in his employ—like a private security detail—to follow those conditions.”

The decision keeps Combs in custody as his legal battles continue.
