Libyan Minister of State for Communications and Political Affairs, Walid Al-Lafi, arrived in Damascus on Saturday to engage in discussions with newly appointed Syrian officials.
During a meeting at Al-Shaab Palace, Minister Al-Lafi held talks with Ahmad al-Sharaa, leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Al-Lafi highlighted the focus on military and security cooperation between the two nations.
“It was an important meeting, especially given the timing and the intersecting issues between Libya and Syria, particularly in the military and security domains, as well as the broader consequences of the major events in Syria on the region,” Al-Lafi stated.
Since the overthrow of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government, Syria has welcomed numerous foreign and Arab officials, signaling a growing commitment to support the country’s reconstruction and peaceful transition of power.
