Lagos PDP Urges EFCC to Probe Impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, and prosecute him if found guilty of allegations of misconduct and fraud.

Speaking on the matter, PDP Spokesman Hakeem Amode stated that the Assembly’s allegations of fraud against Obasa were concerning to Lagosians and urged lawmakers to take the necessary legal steps.

“The Assembly has the constitutional right to impeach and elect new leadership, but if fraud has been committed, the lawmakers must petition the EFCC or the police and provide evidence for a thorough investigation,” Amode said.

Obasa, who represented Agege Constituency 1, was impeached on Monday for offenses that included poor leadership, misconduct, and habitual lateness to legislative sessions.

Reacting to the development, former Speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji described Obasa’s impeachment as inevitable, attributing it to his high-handedness and strained relationships with colleagues.

“Leadership in the House requires humility and mutual respect,” Ikuforiji said. “Seeing colleagues as subordinates or becoming complacent with power leads to a shaky foundation in the Assembly. The parliament is an institution where everyone is equal, and leadership must be approached with this understanding.”

Ikuforiji added that Obasa’s long tenure and defiance of party leaders’ advice likely contributed to his downfall.

Obasa’s impeachment has sparked calls for greater accountability and transparency in the Assembly, with Lagos PDP urging all stakeholders to prioritize the interests of Lagosians in addressing the allegations.
