The Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has officially endorsed Alhassan Yahya as its candidate for the position of national president in the union’s upcoming election. This announcement was made public through a communiqué released yesterday after the council’s monthly congress, held on Saturday.
Yahya, currently the NUJ’s deputy national president, is running to succeed Chris Isuguzo in the top position at the Triennial Delegates Conference, which will take place in November in Owerri, Imo State. In addition to supporting Yahya’s bid, the council also endorsed Abimbola Oyetunde for the deputy president position.
“The Lagos Council of NUJ adopted Alhassan Yahya and Abimbola Oyetunde for the posts of President and Deputy President respectively at the forthcoming Triennial Delegates Conference scheduled for Owerri in November,” the communiqué stated.
The council also addressed broader concerns affecting journalists and the public, calling on the Lagos State government to reconsider the suspension of the ‘Onje Eko’ food support program, which was introduced to help combat rising food prices
