Kwankwaso Rules Out Party Alliances Without Top Ticket Ahead of 2027

Rabiu Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has declared that he will not join any political party or coalition ahead of the 2027 general election unless offered either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket.

Speaking to supporters in Kano on Saturday, the former Kano State governor stressed that negotiations without such terms are “meaningless” to him and his political movement. He said while the NNPP is open to mergers and alliances, leadership of the ticket remains non-negotiable.

“We are looking for a party, but they must agree to give me, Rabiu Kwankwaso, a presidential or vice-presidential ticket,” he stated.

Kwankwaso’s announcement comes amid growing speculation over his next political move, with several parties reportedly courting him as preparations for 2027 intensify. Reports have linked him to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has attracted major political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi—all believed to have presidential ambitions.

The former governor’s firm stance signals that he is unwilling to accept a secondary role in a crowded field and is not considering any ruling party arrangement without a clear place at the top of the ticket.

In the 2023 presidential election, Kwankwaso contested under the NNPP and finished fourth, solidifying his influence as a major political force in Kano and parts of northern Nigeria.
