Kano Police Delay Eviction of Deposed Emir Pending Court Decision

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, has clarified why his officers have not yet evicted the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Kano State, Haruna Dederi, had ordered Bayero’s eviction from the Nasarawa Palace to facilitate reconstruction work.
However, CP Gumel stated that the police are holding off on the eviction to avoid “jumping the gun.” He explained that the Kano State Government has filed a case regarding the eviction order at the State High Court, scheduled for Monday, June 24, 2024.
“The police will not evict the deposed Emir because the same government has filed a case at the State High Court on the eviction order, which would come up on Monday, 24th June 2024,” Gumel said. He emphasized that executing the order before the court hearing would pre-empt the court’s decision.
In the meantime, security measures have been intensified around the Nasarawa mini palace where Bayero continues to reside and receive visitors and supporters.
