Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has warned residents against aiding or providing any form of support to insurgents amid renewed security concerns in the state.
The warning follows reports of an alleged accidental bombing in Jilli, a community located between Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State and Geidam in Yobe State.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, the governor said he had been fully briefed on the military operation carried out by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI.
“I have been properly briefed on the airstrike carried out on Jilli market, a border town between Borno and Yobe states,” Zulum said.
Addressing the situation, he noted that the area had long been under restriction due to security concerns, revealing that Jilli and Gazabure markets were shut down five years ago by the state government.
Zulum described Jilli market as a location allegedly used by insurgents and their logistics suppliers, warning residents to avoid any activities that could support criminal groups.
“I am in close consultation with the Government of Yobe State and the military hierarchy on the matter,” he added, noting that authorities are working together to fully understand the incident.
The governor explained that reopening of communities or markets affected by insurgency is usually done in coordination with security agencies to ensure safety.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces by providing useful information.
“Residents must not aid, harbour, or provide logistics support to insurgents,” Zulum warned.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting civilians while supporting ongoing military efforts to restore peace and stability in the state.
