JICA Invests $500 Million to Boost Power Transmission in Lagos-Ogun Industrial Corridor

The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has committed $500 million to strengthen transmission infrastructure along the Lagos-Ogun Industrial corridor, including the Agbara, Mowe, and Sagamu industrial clusters.
The investment aims to enhance power supply in these areas by building additional substations, upgrading existing ones, and reinforcing high-voltage powerlines.
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, revealed this development during a meeting with Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, in Abuja over the weekend. Adelabu emphasized the need for collaboration with the Ogun State government to improve gas pipeline infrastructure, which is crucial for boosting the quality and quantity of gas supplied to power plants and industries within the state.
Adelabu also highlighted ongoing initiatives under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) and projects by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) aimed at further enhancing power transmission within and outside Ogun’s industrial corridors. He assured the governor of his commitment to visiting the state soon to engage with industrialists and explore potential areas for cooperation.
Governor Abiodun, in his remarks, praised the minister for the significant improvements in power supply across the country and the ongoing transformation in the power sector. He urged Adelabu to maintain this momentum, which he believes will further stimulate economic growth.
The governor also made a special appeal for increased attention to Ogun State, noting its importance as a key industrial hub in Nigeria. He acknowledged the minister’s recent visits to several industries and power plants in the state, including Momas Electricity Meters Manufacturing Company, Coleman Wires and Cables, Splendor Electric, and the Olorunsogo NDPHC NIPP power plant in Papa Lanto.
Governor Abiodun officially invited the minister to Ogun State to meet with local industrialists and discuss the ministry’s plans for further enhancing power supply. He also expressed a desire to showcase the state’s initiatives in modern agriculture, compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, and renewable energy.
