The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the resumption of enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy starting January 2, 2026.
In a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin on Monday, the police said the move follows a review of emerging security concerns and aims to protect lives and property.
“The decision is necessary due to a disturbing rise in criminal activities perpetrated using vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass,” the statement read. “Some individuals and organised criminal groups have exploited this gap to conceal their identities and facilitate crimes ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping and other violent acts.”
The NPF clarified that there is no court order preventing the enforcement of existing laws on tinted glass. Enforcement was previously suspended to allow motorists adequate time to regularise their documentation.
Motorists requiring tinted glass are urged to apply through approved channels and ensure their vehicles meet legal standards.
The police described the resumption as a proactive measure to safeguard communities across the country.
