Iran’s newly appointed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, reportedly signed a message on a missile directed at Israel as he authorized strikes shortly after assuming office.

Khamenei, 56, was formally named the leader of the Islamic Republic on Sunday, following the assassination of his father, former supreme leader Ali Khamenei, in an Israeli airstrike on February 28.

Within hours of his appointment, Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB shared an image on its Telegram channel showing a missile bearing the inscription: “At your service, Sayyid Mojtaba.”

The display came as Iran launched fresh strikes, marking one of the new leader’s first actions since taking power.

Mojtaba Khamenei’s appointment has been backed by Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as well as the Assembly of Experts, the clerical body responsible for selecting the country’s supreme leader, both of which pledged allegiance to him over the weekend.
