INEC to Begin Voter Registration in Anambra July 8 Ahead of Governorship Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the reopening of its portal for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, starting with Anambra State on July 8, 2025, ahead of the November 8 governorship election in the state.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the announcement during a quarterly meeting with leaders of political parties in Abuja. He said the exercise would allow eligible Nigerians to register as new voters, request transfers, or replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

“For Anambra, the CVR will take place across all 326 wards between July 8 and 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily, including weekends,” Yakubu stated.

He noted that voters seeking to transfer their registration either from other states to Anambra or within Anambra itself can do so during this period. Those with missing or defaced PVCs may also apply for replacements, while uncollected cards from previous exercises will be available for pickup.

Yakubu clarified that registration will be strictly in-person, as online pre-registration will not be available during this phase in Anambra.

He emphasized the legal requirement for INEC to conclude the final voter register at least 90 days before any election, making adherence to the timeline essential for the electoral process.

For the rest of the country, the INEC chairman said that the nationwide CVR will resume on August 18 with online pre-registration, followed by in-person registration from August 25 across all 36 states, the FCT, and the 774 local government area offices.

He assured that a detailed schedule for the national CVR will be released soon.
