Rivers State Sole Administrator, Ibok Ibas, has pledged to ensure the completion of the State House of Assembly complex before the end of his tenure.
During an inspection of the project on Saturday, Ibas noted that in his first two days in office, he observed a critical “missing pillar” in the state’s governance structure—the absence of a functioning legislature.
Accompanied by the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, Ibas was briefed on the project’s status by Engr. Omaka Oko, the General Manager of the contracting firm handling the construction.
“I have been at the executive arm of governance, but one of the pillars missing for now is the legislature. For them to function effectively, they need a place to work from,” Ibas said.
He urged the contractor to expedite work and adhere to agreed timelines, adding that the state had already provided the necessary funds for the project.
“They have a schedule and timelines to adhere to. I believe the state has done its bit by providing the necessary funds, and now the onus is on them to deliver,” he stated.
Ibas emphasized that his primary mandate is to restore law and order in Rivers State, ensuring the government functions effectively during the six-month emergency rule.
