Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison for the 2006 sexual assault of former production assistant Mimi Haley in New York City.

Weinstein, 74, maintained his innocence during the sentencing hearing but acknowledged having regrets as he addressed Judge Curtis Farber.

“I am not a perfect person,” Weinstein told the court. “I live with many regrets, and sincerely apologize for my actions.”

The former movie mogul also complained about the conditions of his incarceration, saying he has been “treated like an animal, or less.” He said he plans to spend his remaining years advocating for changes within the prison system.

Farber told Weinstein that he had failed to take responsibility for his conduct.

“You had it all. Your legacy could have been cemented with greatness,” the judge said. “But you threw it all away by assaulting Miriam Haley.”

Haley, who previously worked as a production assistant on the Weinstein-produced reality television series “Project Runway,” testified that Weinstein sexually assaulted her in 2006.

She told the court that Weinstein held her down on a bed and forced oral sex on her after she repeatedly rejected his advances.

Addressing the judge before Weinstein was sentenced, Haley described the emotional toll of the lengthy legal process, saying she felt as though she had been the one on trial for the past seven years.

The 15-year sentence marks the latest development in the years-long legal proceedings involving Weinstein, whose criminal cases became one of the most prominent prosecutions to emerge from the #MeToo movement.
