Grimsby Stun Man United in 12-11 Carabao Cup Shootout

Manchester United crashed out of the Carabao Cup in shocking fashion after League Two side Grimsby Town defeated them 12-11 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in regulation time.

United fell behind in the 22nd minute when Charles Vernam’s strike slipped past goalkeeper Andre Onana at his near post. Just eight minutes later, Onana misjudged a cross, allowing Tyrell Warren to bundle home Grimsby’s second.

Manager Ruben Amorim responded by introducing Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo at halftime. The changes sparked a fightback, with Mbeumo scoring his first goal for the club before Harry Maguire’s 89th-minute header forced penalties.

The shootout proved epic, with both sides trading spot-kicks deep into sudden death. Clarke Oduor and Matheus Cunha missed for United before Mbeumo saw his decisive effort saved, handing Grimsby a famous victory.

The defeat piles further pressure on Amorim, whose side has yet to win in the Premier League and now see one of their few realistic chances of silverware slip away.
