Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has fulfilled his promise to workers by paying June salaries and pensions early, ahead of the Sallah celebration.
This gesture was confirmed by the Commissioner for Communications and Orientation, Hon. Chris Nehikhare, who emphasized the government’s commitment to its workers.
In a statement, Nehikhare said, “The Edo State Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has paid June salary of workers and pensions in fulfilment of his promise. This is in line with the government’s long-standing practice of meeting its salary obligations before the 26th of every month and to enable our Muslim brothers and sisters to have a good Sallah celebration.”
Governor Obaseki reaffirmed the state’s dedication to prioritizing the welfare of workers and pensioners, highlighting the comprehensive reforms in the public and civil service sectors that have made Edo State a leading public employer in Nigeria.
“Civil and public servants in Edo State have continued to promptly get payment of their salaries, even after raising the State’s minimum wage from N40,000 to N70,000, the highest in the country,” Nehikhare noted. “We will continue to place a premium on the workers’ welfare, ensuring they are well-empowered and supported to deliver optimal and quality services to Edo people.”
This move reflects the administration’s ongoing efforts to ensure financial stability and job satisfaction among its employees, reinforcing Edo State’s reputation as a model for public sector employment in Nigeria.
