Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has assured that power will not change him, pledging to remain humble and committed to his promises to the people.
Speaking during a birthday visit from state leaders and stakeholders at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday morning, Fubara said he would not be swayed by the advantages of high office but would focus on transforming Rivers State.
“I will still be the Fubara that you know; power will not change me. My faith in God and my respect for people will remain intact,” he stated. “Even if we don’t achieve everything, we will lay the foundation for the Rivers State we all dream of.”
The governor, who turned 50, expressed gratitude for the unexpected celebration, noting that he had never been one to mark birthdays. “Seeing leaders gather to celebrate me brought tears to my eyes,” he said.
Former Governor Celestine Omehia praised Fubara as a “deliverer” of Rivers State, while former PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus emphasized that a kingmaker should step aside once a king is crowned—an apparent reference to the state’s political tensions.
The celebration featured prayers, a cake-cutting ceremony, a toast, and gift presentations, with members of the State Executive Council, local government chairmen, and top officials visiting to congratulate the governor.
