Governor Fintiri Announces Creation of New Chiefdoms in Adamawa State

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has established second-class chiefdoms for Hoba, Madagali, Michika, and Fofure, carved out from the Adamawa Emirate. The announcement was made during a statewide broadcast on Monday.

The newly created chiefdoms and their respective headquarters are:

  • Hoba Chiefdom (Headquarters: Hong)
  • Madagali Chiefdom (Headquarters: Gulak)
  • Michika Chiefdom (Headquarters: Michika)
  • Fofure Chiefdom (Headquarters: Fofure)

Additionally, third-class chiefdoms were established for:

  • Gombi Chiefdom (Headquarters: Gombi)
  • Maiha Emirate (Headquarters: Maiha)
  • Yungur Chiefdom (Headquarters: Dumne)

Governor Fintiri explained that these developments are part of the Adamawa State Chiefs (Appointment and Deposition) Law 2024, which aims to enhance the role of traditional institutions in fostering peace, resolving disputes, gathering intelligence, and strengthening social cohesion within the state.

“This piece of legislation is expected to reposition the traditional institution to play smarter roles in our affairs, create hubs for local intelligence gathering to aid security, and provide dignity to our people,” Governor Fintiri said.

He assured citizens that the process is ongoing and encouraged other groups with legitimate agitations to present their cases. “With the right justification, we shall positively respond to genuine demands,” the governor added.

The announcement highlights the government’s recognition of traditional institutions as vital partners in governance, security, and community-building.
