Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has alleged a troubling collaboration between the police and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) aimed at intimidating members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
In a statement on his X handle, Governor Obaseki condemned the supposed police involvement in targeting PDP members. He accused the Nigeria Police Force of working with APC to unlawfully arrest and detain PDP members, creating instability in the state.
Obaseki highlighted the recent arrest of the local government chairman of Esan West, who was reportedly taken to Abuja, and expressed concern that these actions undermine his role as the Chief Security Officer of the state.
The governor called for calm among PDP supporters and announced plans to raise the issue with the Inspector General of Police, who is expected to visit Edo State. Obaseki stressed that such actions threaten democratic processes and harm everyone, including the police.
