The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has weighed in on the ongoing controversy surrounding the Olubadan stool, emphasizing the importance of unity and growth within the state.
Makinde’s comments come amidst the backdrop of division among the Olubadan-in-Council over the enthronement of the Olubadan-designate, Owolabi Olakulehin.
Addressing journalists at his Ikolaba private residence following Eid Prayers on Wednesday, Governor Makinde revealed that he had not received any official communication from the Olubadan-in-Council regarding the nomination for the throne.
He clarified that according to the law, the ascendancy system of the Olubadan is well-defined, leaving no room for speculation.
He said, “The Obas in council are yet to meet to make their nomination (known). When they meet, they will come to me with their nomination and I will say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ and that hasn’t happened.”
Expressing concern over the divisive nature of the ongoing controversy, the governor urged the people to focus on matters that foster unity rather than discord.
He cautioned against the propagation of discord among the populace, emphasizing the collective interest of the state.
“Why are people focusing on things that will divide us? I use this opportunity to tell our people to focus on things that unite us,” Makinde urged.
The controversy surrounding the Olubadan stool has intensified due to the absence of the Olubadan-designate, Owolabi Olakulehin, from public view, attributed to his health condition.
This absence has exacerbated tensions among the members of the Olubadan-in-Council, further fueling the discord within the community.
