Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has firmly defended his recent criticisms of the economic policies implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asserting that he will not apologize for his comments. He argues that his remarks were intended to highlight the difficulties faced by Nigerians under the current policies rather than to insult anyone.
Speaking on Wednesday at the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held at the Government House in Bauchi, Governor Mohammed clarified that his criticisms were meant to provide context and emphasize the need for constructive feedback. He urged his Commissioners to focus on alleviating the people’s suffering and to work diligently towards improving living conditions.
“We have witnessed unfavorable macroeconomic conditions globally, and the national policies under this administration have not been beneficial for us,” said Governor Mohammed. He continued, “I spoke out as a constructive opposition voice, aiming to contribute positively to the president, the government, and the Nigerian people.”
The governor acknowledged the impact of leadership on public perception, stating, “I have no apologies for my comments. My goal is not to create discord or insult anyone but to fulfill my responsibility and address the real issues we face.” Emphasizing the need for effective governance, Governor Mohammed called for heightened efforts from all levels of government to deliver essential services, particularly in rural areas. He urged leaders and commissioners to address the cries of Nigerians and prioritize the needs of the people.
“Our resources are limited, but we must use them efficiently to make a significant impact. Complaints and excuses will not help; we must act to improve the situation,” he said. The governor reiterated his commitment to implementing policies that address the challenges faced by citizens and to fostering connection with the people. He called on the State Executive Council members to support his administration’s efforts and stressed that enhancing the safety and well-being of citizens remains his top priority.
