Germany’s President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is set to arrive in Nigeria today, December 10, 2024, for a three-day visit that will last until December 12, 2024, as announced by the German Embassy.
During his stay in Abuja, President Steinmeier will hold discussions with Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Dr. Alieu Omar Touray.
The visit will also include a trip to Lagos, where the German President will meet with business leaders, visit a start-up hub, and engage with cultural and civil society figures such as Dr. Nike Okundaye and Prof. Wole Soyinka.
President Steinmeier’s trip will offer a closer look at Lagos’ urban development, with a focus on environmental and social challenges faced by the megacity. The German President will be accompanied by a delegation of CEOs and board members from leading German companies in the IT, high-tech, and energy sectors, signaling growing German interest in investing in Nigeria.
The German Embassy emphasized that this visit underscores Nigeria’s importance as a key political, economic, and cultural partner for Germany in Africa.
