Commercial flight operations will commence at the Gateway International Airport (GWI), Iperu, Ogun State, on October 7, 2025, marking a major milestone in the state’s aviation sector.
Indigenous airline ValueJet Airlines has confirmed it will operate two weekly flights from the airport to Abuja. Bookings have been available since September 25 through travel agents and the airport’s ticketing desk.
ValueJet’s Managing Director, Captain Omololu Majekodunmi, said the expansion would meet rising demand in Ogun State while offering travellers an alternative to airports in Lagos and Ibadan.
“The GWI, Iperu’s strategic location near the Sagamu Interchange and Lagos-Ibadan Expressway makes it easily accessible from key economic centres. It is positioned to serve as a major hub for both passenger and cargo traffic,” Majekodunmi said.
He added that the airline would continue to deliver “safe, reliable, and competitively priced services” while consolidating on the trust it has built in its three years of operations.
The airport secured its Aerodrome Operational Permit from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on August 15, 2025, authorising it to host scheduled commercial flights.
With a 4,000-metre-long and 60-metre-wide runway one of the longest and widest in West Africa the facility is designed to accommodate wide-body and ultra-long-haul aircraft, including Boeing 777s and Airbus A350s.
