Garba Shehu Clarifies Revocation of Buhari Foundation’s Land Title

Garba Shehu, former spokesperson to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has clarified that the recently revoked land titles by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) do not belong to Buhari himself, but to the Muhammadu Buhari Trust Foundation.

The FCTA’s public notice on Thursday listed several individuals and entities, including the Buhari Foundation, former Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, and Governor Uba Sani, as having land titles in Maitama, Abuja, revoked due to non-payment of Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) fees.

Shehu explained that the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation, created by Buhari’s associates, faced difficulties securing the C-of-O because of an “outrageous” bill presented by the FCTA. “The former president is not personally the owner of the said plot of land,” Shehu stated. “The foundation, floated by individuals around him, ran into a roadblock when the FCTA handed them an exorbitant bill for the C-of-O, far exceeding those issued to similar organizations.”

Shehu further confirmed that the revocation did not surprise him, noting that Buhari personally owns a separate plot of land in Abuja, unrelated to the revoked titles.

The FCTA’s action follows its earlier announcement of land debtors, with a deadline of November 26 to settle outstanding payments.
