Ganduje Calls for Urgent Upgrades at Lagos Airport Over Ageing Infrastructure

Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has stressed the need for immediate improvements at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) due to its ageing infrastructure.

During his maiden inspection tour of MMIA, Ganduje, alongside FAAN Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, acknowledged that many airport facilities and equipment have become obsolete. He assured stakeholders that the board would work closely with FAAN management to upgrade infrastructure to global standards.

“There are pressing issues, but discussions have already begun on how to resolve them. Airports in developed countries thrive on continuous improvement, visionary management, and investment in modern technology, which is what we aim to achieve here,” he said.

Ganduje also noted that several projects awarded in previous years remain abandoned due to inflation and rising costs. He assured that FAAN has devised strategies to address these setbacks.

Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku highlighted ongoing nationwide airport rehabilitation efforts, stating that these initiatives are already yielding results.

“We have introduced several explosive detection devices to enhance security across the country’s airports. Additionally, terminal rehabilitation projects are progressing, and we expect to complete and commission several of them in the coming months,” she said.
