Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has rejected allegations made by former Head of Service, George Nwaeke, who accused him of fueling the state’s political crisis and conspiring with militants to destroy oil pipelines.
Nwaeke, who resigned on Tuesday, claimed Fubara was working against the state’s stability. However, in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) early Saturday, Fubara dismissed the accusations as baseless, alleging that Nwaeke had been “compromised” and “coerced” into making false claims.
“Ordinarily, I would not have responded, but I must correct the erroneous impression these allegations may create,” Fubara stated.
He denied supporting Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s alleged 2027 presidential bid, insisting no such meetings ever took place. “It is laughable that Dr. Nwaeke, as Head of Service, would be part of any high-level political meeting, let alone a secret meeting with Bala Mohammed and militants,” he added.
Fubara also refuted claims of encouraging attacks on national assets, stating that he has consistently advocated for peace despite provocations.
“The truth is, Dr. Nwaeke is only trying to fulfill a promise to those who may have paid or pressured him to lie against me,” he said, urging Rivers residents and Nigerians to disregard the accusations.
He described the claims as a “desperate attempt to discredit me, my administration, and the peace process initiated by Mr. President.”
