The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has ordered the prosecution of popular TikTok streamer Habeeb Hamzat, known as Peller, following a viral video showing him livestreaming while driving, which reportedly led to a crash.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed issued the directive, expressing concern over what he described as a rising trend of reckless road behaviour by celebrities and content creators seeking online attention.
According to a statement signed by the FRSC’s Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the video showed Peller driving while visibly distressed and livestreaming, resulting in a crash that deployed the vehicle’s airbag and required intervention by bystanders.
The Corps said the act violated traffic regulations, posing serious risks to other road users. Mohammed directed the Lagos State Sector Commander to initiate prosecution for reckless driving, use of phone while driving, and distracted driving under existing traffic laws.
“Fame does not confer immunity from the law, nor does it excuse dangerous behaviour on public roads,” Mohammed said. He urged entertainment bodies, actors’ guilds, and influencer networks to promote responsible conduct, highlighting the influence of public figures on young people.
The FRSC also clarified that unverified social media claims linking the incident to personal disputes involving another content creator, Jarvis, were not part of its findings.
The Corps Marshal reiterated that public roads are not studios or livestreaming platforms, warning that the full weight of the law will apply to anyone endangering lives through reckless driving.
