Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has returned to Nigeria after spending several days abroad for medical care.
A video circulating on social media on Sunday showed Edun at Fraser Suites, Abuja, where he reportedly held a closed-door meeting with a Qatari delegation, alongside the Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole.
Edun had earlier been reported ill, leading him to leave Abuja for Lagos last Monday before traveling overseas for treatment. His absence prompted Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C.
Before his return, Edun was sighted at the O’DA Art Gallery booth during the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London, where he addressed guests in a video shared by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.
Confirming the minister’s trip, Onanuga described it as officially approved.
“Finance Minister Wale Edun visits an art exhibition in the UK. He is in the country for an officially sanctioned few days of rest from the rigours of managing the Nigerian economy,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
