The Federal Government has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest rangers to strengthen security across forest reserves in Oyo State, amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the region.
The announcement was made by Femi Gbajabiamila while delivering President Bola Tinubu’s message to residents of Ahoro Esiele in Oriire Local Government Area on Sunday.
According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the forest guards will be deployed across different forest reserves in collaboration with the state government.
The initiative is part of immediate measures aimed at improving security and curbing criminal activities in forested areas often used as hideouts by armed groups.
The government also responded to community demands for the establishment of a military post in the area, saying the request would be forwarded to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for further consideration.
Officials assured residents that the administration remains committed to strengthening security architecture across vulnerable communities and improving rapid response capabilities.
The move comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of southwestern Nigeria, where authorities have recently intensified efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes.
