The Federal Government has announced a range of transformative policies under President Bola Tinubu aimed at addressing historical challenges and positioning Nigeria as an economic powerhouse. This was disclosed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a press conference in Abuja, marking the unveiling of activities for Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary.
Idris emphasized that President Tinubu’s administration is dedicated to correcting past missteps and driving the nation toward sustainable growth. “Despite global economic challenges and the transitional pains of some reforms, the President remains focused on reviving our economy and setting Nigeria on a prosperous path,” Idris stated.
One of the key reforms highlighted was local government autonomy, where President Tinubu has sought a Supreme Court verdict to implement this autonomy, seen as crucial for rural socio-economic development. The administration’s efforts also focus on stabilizing the economy, improving the foreign exchange system, and restructuring the tax system for efficiency.
Idris further explained that the removal of the petroleum subsidy is part of the government’s broader strategy to guide Nigeria through an energy transition and attract new investments into the oil and gas sector. The minister also praised Nigeria’s 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, calling it a reflection of the nation’s resilience. He described Nigeria as a “leading force” in Africa and a respected voice on the global stage, highlighting the country’s progress since gaining independence in 1960.
