FG Grant Nigeria Citizenship To 286 Foreign Nationals

The Federal Government has announced that 286 foreign nationals from 49 different countries will receive citizenship by naturalisation and registration.

The grant of Nigerian citizenship was approved by the President, Muhammadu Buhari on February 9, 2022, according to an advertisement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, and made available to PUNCH on Saturday.

While 208 of the beneficiaries would gain citizenship by naturalisation, 78 of them would receive citizenship by registration at a ceremony to be presided over by the President at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, according to the document titled “Ministry of Interior Announcement.”

The beneficiaries include 108 Lebanese, 16 Italians, 14 Britons, five Nigeriens, and two Chadians.

Also included are nationals from Egypt, the United States, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Greece, India, Dominican Republic, France, Palestine, Australia, Scotland, Pakistan, Jordan, Cyprus, and Ireland.

Other beneficiaries are nationals from Turkey, Germany, Israel, Uganda, Liberia, Iran, China, Tunisia, Bulgaria, Venezuela, Iraq, Croatia, Spain, the Philippines,  Cameroon, Congo, Eritrea, Sierra Leone, Mali, and São Tomé and Príncipe.

Foreign nationals from Serbia, Kenya, Belarus, Somalia, Romania, Zimbabwe, Ukraine and Ethiopia were also listed as beneficiaries.

The document urged the awardees to “personally come to the Ministry of Interior, Block F, Old Federal Secretariat, Department of Citizenship and Business for proper documentation and accreditation from Monday”.
