FCT Police Commissioner Pledges Accountability After Deadly Shiite Clashes

Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benneth Igweh, has voiced his deep disapproval following the deaths of two police officers during a violent procession by members of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites.
The incident, which occurred in Abuja on Sunday, resulted in the death of at least one trader and left two policewomen critically injured. Three police vehicles were also reportedly set ablaze during the clashes at the popular Wuse Market.
Expressing his outrage, Igweh described the Shiites’ actions as “provocative” and condemned the attack on security personnel. Speaking from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, he vowed to bring those responsible for the officers’ deaths to justice. “You can see now that these people (Shiites) have killed my men. They even went ahead to injure two policewomen. In fact, they’ve even declared war on security operatives,” Igweh stated.
The police commissioner stressed that such violent behavior would not be tolerated in the FCT. “I want to assure you that we won’t take that lightly, this is the last protest or procession they will carry out in FCT,” Igweh declared. He emphasized his commitment to enforcing the rule of law and preventing further attacks on police personnel to maintain peace and order in the capital.
