Former Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has confirmed that she was sacked by President Bola Tinubu during an October cabinet reshuffle, clarifying the nature of her departure.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Kennedy stated, “I was sacked, but my vision remains; my visions are not sacked; it still remains.”
Her removal occurred alongside four other ministers: Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Prof. Tahir Mamman (Education), Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (State for Housing and Urban Development), and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Youth Development).
While the Presidency, through Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, previously downplayed the term “sacked,” Kennedy openly acknowledged the dismissal. Reflecting on her exit, she humorously remarked, “I’m not a witch to know why I was sacked.”
Despite her removal, Kennedy expressed her unwavering commitment to advancing women’s issues in Nigeria, emphasizing that her passion for these causes continues beyond her tenure.
Her candid remarks highlight the impact of her work and her resolve to pursue her vision, regardless of her position in government.
