Emir of Kano Sanusi Makes First Appointment Amid Leadership Tussle

Despite ongoing disputes over the leadership of the Kano Emirate, the reinstated 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has made his first official appointment. Following the state government’s removal of his predecessor, Ado Bayero, and barely a week after his reinstatement, Emir Sanusi appointed Hamisu Sani as the new ward head of Janguza in the Dala local government area.
Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), urged the new ward head to promote peaceful coexistence among residents and contribute to the state’s development. The appointment ceremony was attended by district heads and notable figures, including delegations from religious and market organizations such as Ansarulddeen, the Tijjaniyya sect, and traders from Kano’s prominent textile and commodities markets, Kantin Kwari and Kasuwar Singer.
Sanusi II was reinstated as Emir of Kano last Thursday after the Kano State House of Assembly and Governor Abba Yusuf repealed the Kano State Emirate Councils (Repeal) Bill 2024 and enacted it into law.
