El-Rufai Warns of National Collapse if APC Retains Power in 2027

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a stark warning that Nigeria risks losing its national identity if the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains in power beyond the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Saturday during a grassroots mobilisation campaign organised by the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, El-Rufai accused the APC government of eroding Nigeria’s social fabric and endangering national unity.

“If we allow this party and the government to continue for a second term in office, what remains of Nigeria’s social capital will be destroyed, and we may not have a country at all. This is a fight for our lives,” he said.

El-Rufai, a former APC founding member, defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in March 2025 after his ministerial nomination was rejected by the Senate. Though later expelled from the SDP over allegations of forging membership documents, he has since re-emerged as a prominent voice within the growing ADC-led opposition alliance.

He told supporters in Sokoto that his political involvement is not driven by ambition but by a sense of duty to the Nigerian people.

“When the government does not serve the people, it is my duty as a senior citizen to come out and condemn it and take steps to reverse the situation,” he said.

El-Rufai added that the opposition coalition chose the ADC as a common platform to unify efforts in challenging what he described as “an incompetent government.”

“We are in Sokoto to begin mobilising Nigerians to reject the APC government, both at the state and federal levels,” he declared.

His remarks come amid mounting criticism of the APC-led government over economic hardship, governance lapses, and increasing political defections to emerging opposition platforms.

El-Rufai’s renewed activism and alignment with the ADC-led bloc further signal the formation of a broad opposition front ahead of the 2027 elections.
