El-Rufai Claims Imminent Arrest Plot

Former Kaduna State governor and prominent African Democratic Congress (ADC) figure, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that federal authorities may be planning to arrest him.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, El-Rufai said he expects to be arrested “any moment now,” claiming that four individuals who worked closely with him during his tenure as governor have already been detained.

“Four people who worked with me in Kaduna have been arrested. So, for me, it’s only a matter of time they will come for me too,” he said.

El-Rufai further alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is mounting pressure on politicians to either defect to the party or remain within its fold as political alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election intensify.

The former governor, who served for eight years under the APC before defecting to the ADC, has recently stepped up criticism of President Bola Tinubu and the ruling party.

On Tuesday, El-Rufai also dismissed claims of any past closeness with Tinubu, stating that their strained relationship predates the 2022 APC presidential primary.

“There is an assumption that I was ever Tinubu’s friend. I was not. We never got along. We never had a personal relationship like the one I had with General Buhari,” he said.
