Ekiti 2026: Emmanuel Fayose Dumps PDP, Alleges Deal with APC

Governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, has resigned from the party, accusing its national leadership of betrayal and compromise ahead of the 2026 elections.

Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose, announced his resignation at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, declaring that both he and his supporters could no longer remain in the PDP.

“The decision has been somewhat difficult for us to make as stakeholders of the party in Ekiti State. We are, however, compelled to take it considering the state of affairs within the party,” he said.

He alleged that the PDP primaries in Ekiti had already been compromised, warning that any candidate produced from the process might not even be recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“In view of this, I hereby dissociate myself from this kangaroo arrangement,” he stated.

Fayose directly accused the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, of undermining the opposition.
“I have lost hope in the leadership of the party headed by Ambassador Iliya Damagum and Anyanwu, who are out to destroy the PDP. You don’t need a soothsayer to tell you that both of them are working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),” he alleged.

Although he did not immediately reveal his next political platform, Fayose said consultations were ongoing with allies and associates, urging his supporters across Ekiti State to remain calm and assuring them that his next move would soon be made public.
