Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director, Austin Eguavoen, has refuted claims that he resigned as interim coach of the Super Eagles following their recent AFCON qualifiers. Eguavoen, who led the team to a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic and a goalless draw against Rwanda, affirmed that he remains in charge.
The 59-year-old coach was temporarily appointed after the NFF failed to secure German coach Bruno Labbadia due to tax-related complications. Following the Rwanda match, rumors surfaced that Eguavoen had stepped down, which he denied as “negative stories” during an interview at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Eguavoen clarified, “I only mentioned that I would sit with the federation’s hierarchy after the games to discuss the way forward. I’m still very much in charge.”
