The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the arrival of approximately 100 United States military personnel and associated equipment at Bauchi Airfield.
In a statement issued on Monday evening, Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, confirmed that the deployment followed a formal request by the Federal Government of Nigeria. He explained that the initiative is designed to support military training, provide technical assistance, and enhance intelligence sharing.
Uba emphasized that “the US personnel are technical specialists serving strictly in an advisory and training capacity. They are not combat forces.”
He further clarified, “All training activities will be conducted under the authority, direction, and control of the Nigerian Government and in close coordination with the Nigerian Armed Forces.”
According to the DHQ, the collaboration is intended to equip Nigeria with specialized technical capabilities to strengthen its ability to deter terrorist threats and improve the protection of vulnerable communities nationwide.
Uba disclosed that Nigerian troops and the visiting US advisers will commence a series of joint training programmes and intelligence-focused cooperation initiatives aimed at boosting operational effectiveness.
Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Defence Headquarters assured Nigerians of “continued transparency and the provision of clear, accurate, and timely information regarding the military cooperation efforts.”
