In Asaba and the surrounding areas, the Delta State Task Force on Counterfeit, Fake Drugs, and Unwholesome Processed Foods has closed 57 patent medicine stores.
After a two-day exercise to rid the state of unhealthy processed foods, the task force’s secretary, a pharmacist named Felix Emeye, revealed that the stores had been closed down on roads including Okpanam Road, Marble Hill, Specialist Hospital Road, Ibusa Road, Bonsac, and Oduke, among others.
He said among other infractions, the stores were shut because of the sale of medicines without a license, operating without authorization, and failing to display a license to sell medicines without National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) numbers.
