Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, has assured Nigerians that his refinery has a substantial reserve of 500 million liters of fuel, capable of supplying 30 million liters daily to meet demand and reduce scarcity. Speaking alongside Finance Minister Wale Edun at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Dangote urged fuel marketers to collect available supplies, emphasizing that distribution responsibility lies with them.
“We are fully prepared to meet the market’s needs with 30 million liters daily,” said Dangote, explaining that this reserve could sustain the country’s fuel needs for over 12 days without additional imports. He clarified his role as a producer, not a retail distributor: “We are not in the retail business. I have a refinery, not filling stations. If marketers collect, queues will disappear.”
The refinery owner highlighted the significant financial burden of maintaining such a reserve, given high interest rates, and urged marketers to prioritize local collection over imports. “Maintaining 500 million liters in reserve is costly. If marketers managed 55 million liters daily through imports, they should collect locally to stabilize the supply chain,” he stated.
Dangote pledged to keep a steady supply, affirming, “Our tanks are full and ready to keep Nigeria’s fuel supply flowing smoothly if marketers do their part.”
