Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has assured Nigerians that the defeat of terrorists and non-state actors threatening national security is only a matter of time, declaring their failure inevitable through sustained counter-terrorism strategies and inter-agency collaboration.
Speaking on Sunday in Abuja during an interdenominational church service to mark the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), the Army chief sent a strong message to enemies of the state.
“To all those who seek to disrupt the sanctity of our freedom, our heritage of liberty, and our enduring democracy be assured that your failure is certain and your boast lacks value,” Oluyede declared.
He reaffirmed the Army’s unwavering commitment to defending the nation’s sovereignty, protecting citizens, and upholding its core values of honour, faith, and service.
“We shall never depart from our honour, which is tied to our faith, and we will continue to live true to the Nigerian Army motto: Victory is from God Alone,” he added.
Oluyede emphasized the Army’s ongoing efforts to build strong partnerships with stakeholders, aiming to foster an integrated and cooperative security environment.
Commemorating 162 years of service, the COAS reflected on the legacy of the Nigerian Army a history marked by patriotism, sacrifice, and courage.
“Today is not just a celebration; it’s a time to remember our fallen heroes and honour the burdens borne by their families. We pray for God’s continued protection as we strive to make Nigeria greater,” he said.
He urged citizens to view security as a shared responsibility, adding:
“The Nigerian Army belongs to every Nigerian. With your support, we will do our job even better.”
Delivering the sermon, Acting Director of Chaplain Services (Protestant), Lt.-Col. Martins Amuluche, stressed loyalty, patriotism, and godly service, calling on officers to stay true to their mission with integrity and commitment. He also urged the military leadership to prioritise personnel welfare as part of its ongoing transformation drive.
