CJN to Swear In 57 New SANs as Supreme Court Opens Legal Year

Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will on September 29 swear in 57 newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) as part of activities marking the commencement of the Supreme Court’s 2025/2026 legal year.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Supreme Court’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Dr. Festus Akande.

“In line with our age-long tradition, during the special court session, the Chief Justice of Nigeria will deliver a State-of-the-Judiciary Address, highlighting the performance of the Supreme Court in particular and the Nigerian Judiciary in general, in the 2024/2025 legal year,” the statement said.

Other key stakeholders are also expected to deliver goodwill messages, including the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

The Supreme Court had embarked on its annual vacation on July 21 after what was described as a successful 2024/2025 legal year. According to the apex court, all programmes to mark the opening of the new legal year will begin at 10 a.m. on the scheduled date.
