Former President Muhammadu Buhari has been laid to rest at his Daura residence in Katsina State, with President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and several African leaders in attendance.

Among dignitaries who joined in paying their final respects were Chadian President Muhammed Déby, Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, and Prime Minister of Niger Republic, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine.

The funeral prayer, led by Chief Imam of Daura, Sheikh Salisu Rabiu, was held at the helipad area of the former president’s hometown.

The body arrived in Katsina at 2:00 p.m. and was conveyed by road to Daura by 3:40 p.m. A 21-gun salute was fired between 5:32 and 5:35 p.m., and Buhari was buried by 6:00 p.m.

Also in attendance were Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, several serving and former governors, ministers, and thousands of sympathisers.

Former President Buhari died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London hospital.
