Brazil Sack Head Coach Dorival Júnior After Crushing Defeat to Argentina

Brazil’s football confederation (CBF) has sacked Dorival Júnior as head coach following the team’s 4-1 loss to Argentina in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The CBF confirmed his dismissal on Friday, stating that the decision came after a meeting between CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues and Dorival.

Brazil’s loss to Argentina in Buenos Aires—despite the absence of Lionel Messi—marked their heaviest defeat in World Cup qualifying history.

“The Brazilian Football Confederation announces that coach Dorival Júnior will no longer be in charge of the Brazilian National Team,” the CBF stated, thanking the 62-year-old for his service.

Dorival departs with a record of 7 wins, 7 draws, and 2 defeats from his 16 games in charge.

The CBF has begun the search for his replacement as Brazil looks to rebuild ahead of future international competitions.
