Bishop David Oyedepo Vows Never to Join Politics, Even for $1 Billion

Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has reaffirmed that he will never engage in partisan politics, regardless of financial incentives. Speaking at the church’s annual Shiloh gathering, the 71-year-old cleric urged members to stay committed to their “divine assignments.”

“Partisan politics is off my calling. If you give me $1 billion to join politics, I won’t, because it’s off my course,” Oyedepo stated, encouraging members to make an impact and “rule their world as part of God’s end-time Army.”

He added, “The world is groaning in darkness, but as embedded in Romans 8:19, the world is waiting for the earnest manifestations of the children of God. The army of God is about to emerge to proffer solutions to national crises in the order of Joseph and Daniel. It is the day of what eyes have not seen or ears heard.”

This is not Oyedepo’s first public refusal to consider political office. At a 2022 leadership summit, he described the idea of becoming Nigeria’s president as a “demotion,” citing his global pastoral calling.

“I believe in Nigeria and that’s why I am still here, and still praying for Nigeria. But I consider it a demotion if I am invited to become the president of Nigeria. I am called for a global impact. I saw this in 1984,” he said.

Reflecting on his lifelong mission, Oyedepo said, “Even the devil knows that you can’t be genuinely sold-out to serving God, and not stand out in life. Since 1976, I have never missed a change of story. I was 19 years old when I prayed to God not to let me leave a village the way I met it. So I was 19 when I encountered destiny. I have not been tired going out for God since 1976.”

His remarks underscore his enduring focus on spiritual leadership and global influence rather than political ambition.
