According to reports, the train that left Idu train station in Abuja at 6 p.m. on Monday hit an explosive device about 30 minutes before arriving at Rigasa train station in Kaduna.
Details of the event are still sketchy as of the time of filing this report, however it was learned that a joint team of security officers was able to transport all of the passengers to safety.
A security source who spoke on the incident said, “There is no network in the area so we cannot get any information until the team we have dispatched returns.
“What we know is that suspected IEDs were planted on the track and the train has derailed. We don’t know for sure if there is any injury or death.”
The development was confirmed by the former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district, Shehu Sani on his Twitter account.
He wrote, “Villagers along Abuja-Kaduna road called to confirm hearing multiple gunshots and attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train by terrorists.”
