Atiku Slams ADC Ruling, Warns of Democratic Threat

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticised the judiciary over a recent ruling that removed the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that it could undermine Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ruling by the Court of Appeal of Nigeria has effectively left the party without recognised leadership, creating uncertainty around its ability to participate in the upcoming polls.

Atiku described the development as an “existential threat” to democracy, cautioning that it could set a dangerous precedent for the country’s electoral system. He stressed that the situation risks disenfranchising millions of Nigerians aligned with the ADC.

“Justice delayed is justice denied,” Atiku said, urging the judiciary to act swiftly to address the matter and restore confidence in the democratic process.

He also called on the courts to remain impartial, warning against any perceived influence from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The crisis has raised concerns about the ADC’s ability to meet key requirements set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for participation in the 2027 elections.

With political tensions rising ahead of the polls, Atiku’s remarks highlight growing fears over the stability of Nigeria’s electoral system and the broader implications for democratic governance.
