Atiku: I Saved Tinubu from Impeachment

Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, disclosed that he prevented President Bola Tinubu from being impeached during his time as Lagos State governor.
Atiku’s comments were in response to Vice President Kashim Shettima’s recent remarks.
On Thursday, Shettima noted that both Atiku and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu had once benefited from Tinubu’s political support during their persecutions.
Shettima highlighted that Tinubu’s residence in Bourdillon served as a sanctuary for Atiku amid alleged harassment and expulsion from the PDP.
“Shettima erred,” Atiku responded via a statement from his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, on Sunday, adding that “it was Tinubu who benefited greatly from Atiku’s goodwill.”
Atiku emphasized that without his backing, Tinubu might have faced impeachment as Lagos governor.
Atiku criticized attempts to rewrite early 4th Republic political history by crediting Tinubu with the creation of the Action Congress (AC) party under which Atiku ran in 2007.
He clarified that AC emerged from a coalition of factions, including Tinubu’s Alliance for Democracy (AD), and that Tinubu was not solely responsible for the platform’s creation.
Atiku also urged Shettima to refrain from commenting on matters outside his knowledge, reminding him that Atiku’s nomination as the AC presidential candidate was supported by delegates from across the states, including key political figures from various factions.
