Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed allegations linking him to the ongoing leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shuaibu, addressed the matter on Sunday, labeling claims of Atiku’s involvement as “bizarre” and “extremely far-fetched.”
The PDP has been embroiled in internal turmoil, marked by suspensions and counter-suspensions, leading to interventions from the PDP Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees, and the National Reconciliation Committee. Shuaibu clarified Atiku’s position, stating, “Alhaji Atiku Abubakar believes in due process and is committed to strengthening the PDP, not destabilizing it.”
Shuaibu further noted that any assumptions of Atiku engaging with individuals or groups planning legal action against Justice Peter Lifu’s ruling are unfounded. He emphasized Atiku’s focus on advancing the party’s unity and resilience.
The crisis is believed to be fueled by longstanding differences between Atiku and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Both leaders were notably absent from a recent PDP stakeholders’ meeting, which PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman Bala Mohammed described as inclusive of “all of PDP.”
